Do you really have sensitive skin?
More and more of you are convinced, but is this really the case? The real sensitive skin, what is it?
Not to be confused with a cosmetic allergy or an ephemeral reaction, sensitive skin is a state of permanent skin that has specific characteristics: redness, tightness, tingling, discomfort, sensation of warming ...
Often clear and thin, it is a skin that reacts disproportionately to external aggressions (sun, cold, wind, pollution), but also stress and emotions, a hormonal change, cosmetics ...
At the border of atopic skin, sensitive skin has a very low threshold of tolerance, and a greater tendency to develop eczema, rosacea, rosacea or psoriasis.
6 tips to recognize sensitive skin
I have sensitive skin if:
- I have a rash
- I often feel tingling, tugging, itching
- My skin reacts strongly to changes in temperature, cold, wind ...
- My skin reacts strongly to stress, emotions and hormonal upheaval
- I tend to burn in the sun
- I have a hard time finding care that my skin tolerates
Sensitive skin and dry skin, even fight?
Be careful, sensitive skin is a skin condition and not a skin type.
Contrary to popular belief, sensitive skin does not necessarily rhyme with dry skin, we can very well have mixed and sensitive skin.
To find care that is suitable for your sensitive skin, it will be necessary to determine in advance your skin type (dry, mixed or oily) not to risk finding yourself with too rich non-adapted care.
Why do I have sensitive skin?
Sensitive skin is often hereditary, but it can also be related to the environment, to stress, to the use of inappropriate or overly aggressive cosmetics ...
It is characterized by an alteration of the barrier function, which prevents the skin from being properly protected from attacks and promotes the penetration of irritating factors.
At the heart of sensitivity: inflammation, which we try to appease by all means. But be careful not to do anything ...
Sensitive skin: what must be avoided
Do you have the right actions to take care of your sensitive skin? Discover the most common mistakes and our solutions
Rinse your face with tap water: Limestone water is the enemy of sensitive skin! Often causing tugging, drying and itching, calculus can weaken the epidermis and increase skin sensitivity and redness.
Our advice: Replace tap water with thermal water or floral water. Take the test less than a week out of the totally limestone water of your routine and see for yourself
Micellar water, fake friend of sensitive skin
Too often sensitive skin is reflexed to clean the skin with a cotton soaked in micellar water, to avoid rinsing the face with water.
The problem ? Micellar water contains micelles, small cleaning particles that are surfactants and should never stay on the skin. It must imperatively be rinsed, at the risk of weakening and irritating the skin durably.
If you absolutely want to keep a micellar water, choose the bio preferably to avoid the most aggressive chemical surfactants, and do not zap the rinse, with thermal or floral water.
Rubbing cotton: a daily gesture that tends to irritate the most sensitive skin.
Our tip: Replace your disposable cotton discs with reusable squares that are gentler for the planet and your skin. Our favorites for sensitive skin are those in eucalyptus;) Cotton muslins are also ideal for rinsing your makeup remover.
Very hot water: the heat is bad for the blood circulation and has a tendency to dry and accentuate the redness of the sensitive skins.
Our advice: avoid too hot and too long showers, and do not hesitate to let a mask with honey on your skin during the shower or bath to keep it protected.
Change your routine constantly: it is not recommended in general, and even when you have sensitive and reactive skin! If your skin has finally found the care it tolerates, avoid destabilizing it again.
Our advice: Adopt the most minimalist routine possible, and do not change it until 3 months at the earliest.
